FAQs

Can Jarvis develop specific botanical extracts to our requirements?

Yes, we are constantly developing to very specific briefs. These may be extracts that require special preservatives (or no preservatives) to complement existing INCI lists, tell a story about a very specific place, or extracts that use exact parts of the plant. We will also blend for multiple uses across ranges which can have significant cash flow advantages.

What media are used in Jarvis extracts?

Our standard extracting bases are Hydroglycerinic, Propylene Glycol, Aqueous, Oily and Alcoholic, but we are always willing to look at alternatives to suit specific formulae and INCI lists.
All costs will be clearly communicated and agreed before any work is undertaken, and depending on the scale or urgency of the project we may ask for a percentage of these costs to be paid for in advance.

What is the minimum order quantity and price breaks?

Our standard minimum order quantity for all standard botanical extracts is 10kgs. This may be higher for specially created blends or unusual plant extracts. Price breaks occur at 100kgs and 200kgs. Quantities above this will be quoted on a separate basis.

What is the lead-time for extracts?

Average lead-time for a standard range is between 2 - 6 weeks depending on the production process and where the raw materials have to come from. For speciality extracts and providence-led extracts we may have a very limited window in which to buy or secure the raw materials causing lead times to be significantly higher.

What is the standard shelf life of extracts?

On average it is 18 months but this may alter depending on any non-standard specified preservative blends or processes. There are occasions when we will recommend boosting preservative levels to achieve greater shelf life, such as for very specific provenance-led extracts that may have a very short season. In these cases we would aim for 2 or 3 years. We may be able to offer exact quantities to satisfy your batch size which would eliminate any concerns over shelf life.

Are extracts tested?

All extracts are developed to precise parameters and stringently tested to ensure that they achieve the function required. Full MSDS and specs are available for every extract. Specific Gravity, pH, Refractive Index and TVC (where necessary) are tested as standard. Any additional testing that is performed depends on your requirements.

Do you ship overseas?

Yes we have been exporting for many years and offer worldwide shipments by road rail air and sea. Quotations are given on an individual basis.

What certificates does Jarvis hold?

Jarvis is an ISO 22716 (Good Manufacturing Practice) certified organisation.
